Artist Spotlight: Interview with two times MyMusicMyLife.com Best Song Winner @JN1C

J Nic

j nic

J Nic is a two time MyMusicMylife.com best song contest winner. This time around you won the contest with the track “Shine”. Tell our audience a little bit about this song:

J Nic: Well, first off let me just thank you and all the other contestants and give a shout out to my boy Cezar from the UK, he was in your best video contest. I’ve been working with them, those kids incredible. Venomiss had a dope track I was voting for her as well. Any way this song is a feel good song. My mom was a big inspiration because she was getting on me for having 4 albums and after every one she hit me with the “well you can squeeze mom in there somewhere” so yeah, it’s just about being on and being able to take care of your loved ones one day. Finally being able to SHINE!!

Q: For those music fans out there that are not familiar with the J NIC movement, tell them a little bit about yourself.

J Nic: Well I’m moving up as a person but my Average Joe movement is what I want to expand and have people understand. This music is not all about me, it’s about my fans and family. All you got to do is listen and you could write an essay on me. I don’t lie. I’ve told the world more than they should know about me. That’s what music is about, expression of self. So the movement is to get those underdogs or Average Joes to get up and realize that even if you are average you can accomplish everything and anything as long as you have the will to. Just because you aren’t popular or good looking doesn’t mean you can’t conquer the entire world. Be yourself– that’s all I ask of everyone. On the track “I’m me” I’m not anything but me.  If I can change one kid’s life or make someone want to write and save them or anyone I will do it.

Q: What projects are you currently working on and what are your plans for 2015?

J Nic:  I’m finishing up this commercial album Black and White and working on my AJ3 mixtape. I’m also looking to produce some artists and get them on as well. I’m not selfish at all, I’m here to do good.

Q: With the evolution of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, do you think it’s just as easy now for an unsigned artist to get as much exposure as an artist on a major label?

J Nic: To be honest yes and no. It’s actually harder to get noticed because there are so many people on Soundcloud , Facebook ,and Youtube, etc. that get millions of views every day.  Back in the day u had to distribute burned cds and try and get the right person to listen. If u was not in New York or knew someone big you had no chance. Social media has given artists so much exposure to get noticed. You really have to stand out and just do your own thing to be successful. I just skipped the local stuff.  It’s a big setback, unless like I said, you in a bigger music area like New York.

Q: If you were approached by a major record label and an independent label and offered similar recording contracts, what factors would make you more likely to pick one over the other?

J Nic: Independent all day. Look at Interscope, Jimmy Iovine has made artists like 50 and Game leave the Label. 50 is doing his own thing now which is great. I want to put out my music, not be screwed over or pushed to the point where music becomes work and not fun. Music is to release stress and it’s therapeutic. Too much drama if you don’t got that radio joint they will drop u in a heartbeat.

Q: What has been the biggest accomplishment in your music career so far?

J Nic: Having a kid that I don’t even know message me and tell me that my music saved his life. That it gets him through the day. That was really when I started to give music 100%. It’s not about me like I said it’s about the fans and making a difference.

Q: It’s been a pleasure. Thank you for taking time out for MyMusicMyLife.com today. Do you have any shout outs and updates for fans to look forward to?

J Nic:  Show out to my producer Mark Cornell, my manager Charles Brown, my mother of course, my boy Lorne, all the soldiers deployed out there that misses the holidays I been there keep your head up and everyone who voted and believed in me. Thank you to you guys at MMML  as well.

How can people get in contact with you and hear more of your music?
