Hello A-Slim! Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is A-Slim, I’m an upcoming artist from the twin cities area. I’ve been perfecting my craft for a few years now and really looking to take things to the next level with this new project “The District.”
How did you get your rap moniker A-Slim?
Growing up we (me and my bros) would never use our government names because of what we were running around doing. We didn’t want to get into trouble so everybody called me slim, and from that point it just kind of stuck. I put the A in front of it because my first name is Austin so that’s where A-Slim came from.
What is special about you as an artist, to get people to check out your music?
I’m 100% original. I feel there’s no Rappers out really that are like me. I feel from my look people expect a certain sound and a certain style but when I rap I come off totally different. I’m really versatile because I’ve been in a lot of different situation and when I hit the booth, I just try to give you all sides of slim.
How would you describe your sound in style?
I would describe my style as authentic. I’m not stepping into the booth trying to give you a certain sound. I give you what I’m feeling at the time. That could be a simple banger or a more lyrical track. I try not to box myself in with a certain style.
What project are you currently working on?
I just released a project called “The District” and I’m trying to push that for a while. I have a lot of songs in my inventory for a new project and continue to create everyday so I should have a new project ready soon. I really don’t have a name for it or a concept yet at this time. I’m really just trying to push this one as far as it can go.
What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment so far in your music career?
I try not to really focus on that at this point because there is so much more I want to achieve. My accomplishments don’t really matter to me much until I’m where I want to be.
Is there any artist that you would love to work with? If so, why?
Anybody that has the same passion for music as I do. There’s no one in particular really at this point.
What is your current label status? Are you actively shopping for deal?
Right now, me and my partner are trying to push our movement Supreme Empire District (SED). I’m not really looking for a label deal at the time. I’m trying to grow a bigger following independently so I can bring more to the table as far as signing to someone. I’m really looking for a distribution deal.
It’s difficult to come up as an artist these days, what is your formula for success?
Just stay original, there are too many artist trying to be like someone else. Fans are looking for new artist, not copies of other artist they like already. Develop your own sound and style and run with it.
Anything else you like to talk about?
I’m going to begin releasing music videos for some songs off the tape soon and have a lot of new music on the way. A lot of big things coming this next year.
