Music Spotlight: Recording Artist Shane Mane & Ceven
Give us some background info as to who you are.
I grew up bouncing between Kenosha, WI and a suburb of Milwaukee called West Bend as a kid. We didn’t have a lot of money so growing up I entertained myself by creating music, as that’s free. I played several different instruments and loved to write. When I wasn’t doing that I was skateboarding and chasing girls. It was a pretty typical Midwest upbringing. I came from a single parent home and spent a lot of time at my grandparents’ house.
What is the significance of your name Shane Mane?
I actually didn’t pick it. It picked me. People would say, “What’s Shane Mane” or they’d say “what’s up Mane.” I guess it just kind of stuck.
Who is your target market?
I never like to put myself inside of a box. If you listen to all my music, you’ll hear a little Hip Hop, a little Rock. I pretty much was influenced by everyone from the Beastie Boys, Dr Dre, and BDP to Pink Floyd and Zepplin. So my target market is anyone who likes good music.
How would you describe your sound?
Again, I like to think of what we are creating as just pure music. Some of the tracks you could hear in the club, other tracks you can hear cruising in the car, and other tracks you can listen to while you’re getting ready to go out and party. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and we like to have fun when we are writing and performing.
What is your USP? (Unique Selling Proposition) and what sets you apart from other artists?
My USP is that I can go from Rock, to Rap, and to Soul in 8 bars. Also I know how to write a song from start to finish, meaning the music and the lyrics.
What single or project are you currently pushing?
I am pushing Shane Mane and Ceven all day. Our new single is “HELLO” (THONG SONG)” Ceven and I had a group called Sir Carter Patrick and we really made a statement with some of those tracks as far as that we were for real and ready for anything. Whether it was the headline opening act for Wiz Kahlifa or in some bar out in the middle of nowhere, our motto was bring it on.
What is the philosophy by which you live by?
My philosophy is that you only live once, thus never stop chasing your goals and dreams. There will be plenty of time to rest later on in life. If you want something, then go get it. Haters will hate along the way, but don’t get mad. They are just angry that they didn’t have the courage and strength to put themselves out there and take that leap of faith.
Who does your production?
In terms of production, I have worked with several different producers throughout my career. It started with a friend of mine, Andrew “Gumby” Gundrem, and then the boys from Tofino Sound, Kyle Thomas and PUN. And ultimately who I mostly collaborate with now is Ceven. He owns a big studio in MKE called Studio Ceven.
Any final words for the people.
Stay true to your roots and become an individual as an artist. The blues are the blues, but a true blues player plays his own style of blues. Same rule in Hip Hop
