Those who think conceptual hip-hop albums are a relic of the past haven’t been acquainted with Brownsville veteran Ka, a former member of the group Natural Elements. His visions and allegories are unparalleled in depth, though easily enjoyable to any fan of classic hip-hop. He’s just released his fourth solo album, Honor Killed the Samurai, the follow-up to last year’s masterful Dr. Yen Lo, a collaborative release with producer Preservation.

Ka has also shared a new video to the HKTS track “Just.” The black-and-white animated visual, directed by Kyle Samuels, follows the life of a young man in an “inclement region.” He finds himself in an unescapable cycle of violence and incarceration, often falling victim to others, who, like him, abided by the maxim: “To get what we need, we did what we must.”

Purchase Honor Killed the Samurai on iTunes, and order the album on CD or vinyl via Ka’s website.
