Quavo of the Migos Continues His Solid Solo Run With “My Pockets”
Although Migos continues to drop music as a group, 2016 has also seen the precipitous rise of group member Quavo as a musical solo force. He had a scene-stealing turn on Young Thug and Travi$ Scott’s “Pick Up the Phone” and even showed up on Donald Glover’s critically-acclaimed new FX show Atlanta. Some people have speculated that Quavo could easily be a rap star in his own right after delivering some of 2016’s most compelling guest verses.
Now, he’s back with another solid solo cut to further stoke people’s curiosity about him as an artist. His latest solo effort “My Pockets” originally premiered on OVO Sound Radio on Saturday, and producer Murda Beatz made the song available to stream via SoundCloud on Sunday night. Unlike some of Quavo’s other recent material, this track doesn’t stray too far from his Migos roots.
Still, it’s a fun listen and features the staccato flows and carefree lyrics that Quavo is known for. “My bitch is better than yours, and/My pockets fatter than yours,” he raps on the chorus. “Her pussy wet like ocean/Super-soaking/My pockets swollen.” It only clocks in at two minutes, but the song is still sure to excite some fans who have found Quavo’s recent material more captivating than what’s he’s done previously.
