Music and Movie biz- Mary J. Blige to Star in New Netflix Series ‘The Umbrella Academy’
After picking up a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination for her work in the Netflix film, Mudbound, Mary J. Blige is looking to expand her acting resume even further, as she’s just signed on to star in company’s new series, The Umbrella Academy.
According to Deadline, the upcoming Netflix series is based on the graphic novels of the same name, written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and follow a dysfunctional superhero family trying to solve the mystery of their father’s murder.
Blige has signed a one-year contract to play Cha-Cha, a time-traveling hit woman with a reputation for sadism. It’ll be an interesting role for Blige, who, after the critical-acclaim she received for her last role, certainly can make a real go of it in behind the screen. She’s previously had small guest appearances on black-ish and Empire and starred in the live adaptation of The Wiz but this will be her longest TV role to date, so it’ll be interesting to see what it brings in terms of her acting career.
