Music Biz- Billboard Reportedly Set to Start Counting YouTube Streams on Albums Chart
This report comes from the mouth of Hits Daily Double, who claimed Wednesday that YouTube streams would now be factored into Billboard Top 200 tabulation. The YouTube portion of the ranking, HDD said, will also include pedestrian-ass clips featuring music. At the time of this article’s publication, Billboard had not released an official statement.
The ever-changing methods with which charts are compiled has resulted in a swath of historic accomplishments, many of which involve the future-minded Kanye West. Wednesday, BBC News reported that West’s 2016 album The Life of Pablo had once again made history by becoming the first streaming-only album to achieve gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry.
Previously, The Life of Pablo rocked a similar accomplishment stateside by becoming the first streaming-only release to achieve platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
