(Updates) Chuck D on Flava Flav’s Lawsuit: ‘Drama Is Beneath Me, Considering Our Age’
Chuck D has responded to the claims made by his longtime partner.
“Flav has his rights, but took a wrong road on this…We will be [together] on a future stage,” Chuck told TMZ.
He also says that he thinks when all is said and done, Flav “will again be embarrassed admitting on stage about the way it spun out. It’s always this way with him.” He also said that he hopes that next time, Flav will be “woke” in the rehearsal studio “and paying attention to the work we and all the members do worldwide.”
According to the suit, Flav also says that his voice and image were used without consent on the group’s recent 2017 album, Nothing Is Quick in the Desert, which was released for free in June. Flav said he was supposed to be paid $75,000 for the album but only received $7,500. Additionally, Flav is suing PE producer Gary “G-Wiz” Rinaldo, whom he also accuses of using his likeness without permission when the producer struck a deal to create PE action figures.
But Chuck disputed those claims as well, going on Twitter to clear things up, after saying that they’re too old to engage in drama.
“When its all SAID & done I gotta pick him up & dust him off,” Chuck wrote, tagging the post with “#spoied.” “Miss a deadline things move. Don’t release album there WONT be touring.”
Chuck also said that regardless of whether or not Flav is involved, he will be heading to Houston to perform a benefit with Prophets of Rage. Chuck did end his Twitter explanation by saying people can lighten up on Flav because he has new management who thought it’d be a good move to sue him. But he was also chastising, saying that Flav didn’t show up for Harry Belafonte’s Sankofa festival last year and that the move was “ungrateful,” especially since he inducted them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
