Drake’s “One Dance” (Cash Money/Republic Records) is shuffling towards a 15th consecutive U.K. No. 1 and is now in sight of a place in the history books.

The Canadian rapper’s hit holds a slender lead in the race to the chart summit. “One Dance” is No. 1 on the U.K Chart Update, with little separating the single from the midweek No. 2 (Jonas Blue feat. JP Cooper’s “Perfect Strangers” via Positiva) and No. 3 (Calum Scott’s “Dancing On My Own” via Instrumental). According to the Official Charts Company, the gap between “One Dance” and “Dancing On My Own” is just 373 combined chart sales.

If Drake keeps a grip on top spot when the new chart is published Friday, he’ll draw level with Wet Wet Wet’s 15-week unbroken stretch at the summit with 1994’s “Love Is All Around”. Bryan Adams has the all-time streak with “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You,” which owned No. 1 for 16 weeks successive weeks back in 1991.

Chainsmokers feat. Daya’s “Don’t Let Me Down” (Disruptor) is No. 4 on the midweek chart and Clean Bandit feat. Louisa Johnson is at No. 5 with “Tears” (Atlantic).

The top new releases at the midway point of the chart week include 5 Seconds Of Summer’s song from the Ghostbusters soundtrack, “Girls Talk Boys” (Capitol), which is at No. 12 and should give the Aussie pop-punk band its sixth top 40 hit, while Katy Perry’s Olympics anthem “Rise” (Virgin) is on track to give the U.S. pop singer her 20th U.K. top 40 hit. “Rise,” which dropped last Friday (July 15), is at No. 13 on the Chart Update.
