It doesn’t look like Chris Brown will be holding back in his forthcoming Jet interview.
Excerpts from his interview with the magazine have been released and include some controversial statements.
Amongst other topics, the singer addresses the issue of racism in America. Brown goes on to comment on the way that Hip-Hop stars are fitted into boxes, but he adds that rap mogul, Jay-Z, appears to get “a pass” from the establishment.
“This is something I’ve been dealing with for the past maybe five years,” Brown tells Jet. “Anybody with a voice — Tupac, Michael Jackson, the Notorious B.I.G. — gets formatted…except maybe for Jay Z, who is accepted by White America because he shakes hands and kisses babies. No disrespect, because I’m a fan, but nobody brings up the fact that he stabbed somebody and sold drugs. He gets a pass.”
It seems like Brown is referring to the stabbing of Lance “Un” Rivera, which Jay pleaded guilty to in 2001, later mentioning the incident on The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse’s “I Did It My Way.
