COOLEY HIGH: AIN GONE LOSE NO SLEEP
Ain Gone Lose No Sleep is a dauntless slice of rising up in the poverty stricken south. In an area that is thick with a crabs in a bucket mentality that is eager to pull down those striving for the best, Cooley High stands tall with the unapologetic “Nunyas” produced by Richmond, TX native Xavior Jordan. This track almost stomps a hole in your trunk along with a dark piano melody that pleases the deafest of ears, Cooley High launches at his intrusive counterparts like a bull with the pink eye. Ain Gone Lose No Sleep blends biting lyricism and a forceful production that is constantly evolving to pull you deeper into the story of growing up in a sluggish drilling town in southern Mississippi.
Derrick “Cooley High,” has spent the better part of the last decade cutting his teeth in the independent hip hop scene. He has released several mixtapes and has been featured on multiple compilations, showcasing his polished and efficient wordplay. Pulling influences from artists such as Outkast, David Banner, UGK, 2Pac and a host of other southern rappers as well as blues and southern soul artists, this musical framework lays the foundation for Cooley High to flex proper while effortlessly bringing you into his world.

When asked what he brings to the game he says ” I’m like a new quarterback coming into the game, I’m fresh, I’m dope, possesses great leadership skills and I’m a game changer. Did I say new? People love new things he smiles. I’m not trying to bring back nothing except for the authenticity of rap music, I’m taking rap into another zone right now, my style of music will be the next new wave to ride simply because the topic of discussion matches the delivery. Did I say dope? People love dope things he chuckles.” The title track and first single “Ain’t Gone Lose No Sleep” featuring J.Rich produced by Atl’s Bravestarr is a solid introduction to the quick-witted southern native. The mixtape is energized and upfront, with songs that detail the constant battle of hardship involving himself and his peers (Brothers In The Struggle) to the fun and flirtatious (Freaky Girlz), Cooley High proves that he can work hard and play the hardest.
Looking towards the future Cooley High is developing a live band to tour with which will capture and bring the mood of the streets and the southern clubs to any stage he plants his feet. Cooley High is relentlessly working to take his craft to the next level. “I would like to work with some of the O.G’s in the game such as Bun B, T.I, David Banner, Jeezy, Kanye, Snoop and Lil Boosie. Otherwise I would love to hop a track with 2Chainz, Rich Homie, Yellawolf, and August Alsina that would definitely be fun, and of course the homie Big KRIT, and when I want to make a real club banger to get the party jumping I gots to holla at Uncle Luke.
Cooley High has mastered the techniques of cadence and rhythm over the years of dedication and pure passion to paint a vivid picture through each of his tracks. That quarterback confidence is heard on the self-produced track and next single “Hop On It,” where Cooley High spits a hypnotizing seduction over a smooth hazed sound that brings the touchdown straight to the damp clubs of the south. His storytelling and written voice are captivating and shows that he is poised to be mentioned in the same conversation as the greats. -Trite Static
