Is Diddy Looking to Conquer The Art World? $21 Million Art Purchase of “Past Times” by Kerry James Marshall.

Diddy made history last week when he purchased the painting, “Past Times,” by renowned artist Kerry James Marshall for a record $21 million at a Sotheby’s auction—the purchase became the highest amount ever paid for a work created by a living black artist.

The move inspired artists everywhere, and furthered the call to support local artists. After all, you never know when an artist is going to become a breakout star, causing your initial investment to swell. We all remember JAY-Z’s line from “The Story Of O.J.”—”I bought some artwork for one million/Two years later, that shit worth two million/Few years later, that shit worth eight million….”

To that end, now Diddy’s son Quincy Brown says his dad’s recent big purchase is only the beginning of a new venture for the Millionaire mogul.
