Music Biz: Lil Durk Leaves Def Jam and Drops ‘Just Cause Y’all Waited’ EP
Lil Durk has been part of Def Jam’s roster for around five years now, but in conversation with Billboard he’s confirmed that he’s left the record label. To coincide with his departure from the label, he’s shared his first post-Def Jam release. Featuring appearances from Ty Dolla Sign and PartyNextDoor, Just Cause Y’all Waited is all about Durk’s growth since signing five years ago.
“I’ve been with Def Jam Records for five years and they gave me my first recording contract so for that I’m forever grateful,” he told Billboard. “But I’m a different artist than I was five years ago, and the time is right for a change. At the same time, Def Jam is making changes in their offices and trying a new direction. I didn’t want to be a part of another regime change.”
