Music Biz- Drake Sets New Record With 13 American Music Awards Nominations #AMA

Drake just can’t stop winning. The rapper received a monumental 13 nominations from the American Music Awards, beating out Michael Jackson’s 32-year record of 11 from 1984.

Unsurprisingly, he leads all 2016 American Music Awards nominees including Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Album, Favorite Rap Artist, Favorite Rap Song and Favorite R&B song. Drizzy even received two entries each in the Collaboration of the Year, for his feature on Rihanna’s “Work” and “One Dance” with Wizkid and Kyla, and Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Album categories for both Views and his joint project with Future, What a Time to Be Alive. If he wins in any of the categories it will make his first AMA win, but his chances are looking pretty good.

Of course, Drake is in some good company. His rumored girlfriend and collaborator, Rihanna, received seven nominations. Adele and Justin Bieber followed with five nominations and Beyoncé and The Chainsmokers received four nominations each. Fetty Wap, the Weeknd, Bryson Tiller, Twenty One Pilots, and Carrie Underwood rounded out the top honors with three nominations each.

Drake will go up against Rihanna, Adele, Beyoncé, Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood, and The Weeknd for the coveted Artist of the Year award. The 10 nominees will be narrowed down to five based on the votes received through Nov. 14 and voting for Artist of the Year will close on Nov. 17.

There’s no doubt that Drake has been working harder than most this year and has already announced his next Boy Meets World Tour. Check out the full list of nominees below and be sure to tune in for the awards’ live broadcast from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. ET to see if Drizzy takes home his first AMA.
