Music Biz- First Week Sales Projections for Lil Uzi Vert, XXXTentacion, and ASAP Mob
It was a big week for hip-hop releases, with acts like ASAP Mob, XXXTentacion, and Lil Uzi Vert each delivering their highly anticipated projects. Though there’s still several days left until first-week numbers are tallied, the crew at HITS Daily Double have presented some early sales projections, giving us a better idea of which album will lead on the charts.
Uzi Vert’s Love Is Rage 2 is expected to fare the best with an estimated 110,000-120,000 copies moved within its first week. Out of that figure, 25,000-28,000 are projected to be in traditional album sales, which can easily put him at the top spot on the upcoming Billboard 200 chart. HDD reports Uzi Vert’s debut studio album reached the No. 1 spot on iTunes on the day of its release, and has gone back and forth from No. 1 and No. 2 on Apple Music. Not too bad considering the Philadelphia rapper didn’t announce the release until a day prior.
XXXTentacion is expected to trail Uzi Vert with his debut album 17, which is projected to move 65,000-70,000 copies including 15,000-18,000 in album sales. That’s a pretty impressive number that could be attributed to his controversial publicity stunt—you know, when he pretended to hang himself on a tree—or, perhaps, it’s due to Kendrick Lamar’s generous co-sign.
ASAP Mob’s long-awaited Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy is set to come in third out of these releases, as it’s on track to move only 30,000-35,000 copies with 7,000-9,000 in physical copies sales. Disappointing numbers, for sure, but it’s important to note that Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 marked the Mob’s third project release this month. It’s possible fans weren’t so hungry for the album considering they just received ASAP Ferg’s Still Striving and ASAP Twelvyy’s 12.
