Music Biz- The Notorious B.I.G Now Has Five Albums With Over a Million Sales

Thanks to a Greatest Hits compilation released in 2007, The Notorious B.I.G. has now scored his fifth million-selling album in the States. Billboard reports that the compilation sold 4000 copies for the week ending February 8, pushing the album’s sales past the one million mark. The sales for that week are up 339% from the previous week, and as Billboard notes, it’s likely because the album was sold for $4.99 on the iTunes store for that period.

Because of this surge, all five of Biggie’s solo albums have reached the million-selling mark, with the two albums he finished when he was still alive coming through the biggest numbers. His second studio album, Life After Death, has over five million in sales, while his debut, Ready to Die, has almost four million. The two posthumous albums, Born Again and Duets: The Final Chapter, gained 1.96 million and 1.17 million respectively.

Biggie has now sold 13.4 million albums in the U.S. alone, and that number will likely gradually rise over time thanks to his undeniable legacy. Faith Evans did release a collaborative album featuring Biggie last year, The King & I, but that didn’t make much of a splash, selling only 24,000 units.

His numbers may increase even more soon, as USA Network’s highly-anticipated anthology series Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac & The Notorious B.I.G. begins its 10-episode season on Feb. 27. Anthony Hemingway, a director on the hit series The People v. O.J. Simpson, was tapped to chronicle the murders of the two legendary artists. Watch the full trailer here.
