Singer John Legend Donates $5,000 To Seattle’s School-Meal Debt

When it comes to his unabashed kindness, John Legend definitely gives all of himself.

According to the Seattle Times, Legend made a donation of $5,000, under his birth name of John Stephens, to a GoFundMe campaign created to help cover Seattle students’ mounting school-meal debts.

The man behind the GoFundMe page, Jeff Lew, was in awe. Lew created the campaign less than three weeks ago to cover the roughly $21,000 owed by students in Seattle’s 99 schools. As of this writing, the effort has raised a little over $36,000.

“I thought, ‘It could be him, let’s try sending him a personalized note,'” said Lew, who reached out to John Legend first via email and then on Twitter. The R&B star reminded everyone that donation was all about giving back to the kids.
